Thailand 2006 : Ayutthaya UNESCO World Heritage Site

พระนครศรีอยุธยา Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya
was founded by King Ramathibodi I of the U-Thong Dynasty in 1350 and remained as the capital of Siam until 1767 when the Burmese invaded Ayutthaya and burned it to the ground. The capital was then moved 90km south to Thonburi (later Bangkok) on the bank of Chao Phraya river. The Ayutthaya Historical Park is recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 1991

Japanese tourists taking a ride on the trained elephants. Upon seeing these elephants, i felt that i gad travelled back in time, to the hey days of the Ayutthaya Kingdom where it is a prosperous city with trader ships from all over the world sailing up the Chao Phraya river from the Gulf of Thailand

One of the advantage of backpacking trip is that i can decide on how much time i wish to spend in one location, and takes in the scenery and sight at my own pace, that's why i don't see the point of paying more money and having to rush up and down the tour bus following other's schedule ?
